Annalies Corbin, Ph.D. Honored As Smart Business Top Executive

PAST Receives Top Innovation Award

pil-2016-096-AC-Intro.jpg

Smart Business magazine honored 50 of Central Ohio’s Top Executives – one of whom was Annalies, PAST President and CEO. According to the magazine, all 50 award recipients “shared the common trait of passion.” That definitely describes Annalies and her staff!

At the awards ceremony three of the recipients received additional recognition. PAST Foundation was honored with the Smart 50 Top Innovation Award.

“We are constantly looking for new ways to support the transformation of education which includes building partnerships with business and industry partners,” Annalies told the Smart 50 audience.

Very proud of PAST’s mission and work, Annalies invited all honorees and their companies to visit the PAST Innovation Lab to experience the passion. If you’d like to schedule a visit to learn more about how PAST is transforming education by "linking learning to life", contact us.

21st Century Global Sustainability Bridge Program
Join PAST in the Virgin Islands
Westin-St-John-Aerial-View.jpg

Global sustainability is a worldwide issue that affects everyone, everywhere.  Learning how to make decisions that promote sustainability by understanding many of the factors that impact change and environment is important.  Learning this type of decision-making in high school is key to good practices and stewardship throughout one’s adult life.

The 2017 Global Sustainability Bridge Program is a collaboration between PAST and OSU.  Led by Pam Hayes, Metro Early College Learning Lab Coordinator, and Dr. Sheli Smith, PAST Chief Academic Officer, the program starts in January 2017 with late afternoon classes held every other week through May.  The class culminates with a 10-day trip to St. John, USVI where students apply the knowledge they have been amassing throughout the semester with regard to demographics, settlement patterns, trade networks, archaeological remains, and holistic medicines.

The option of college credit is offered to participating students and is open all who want to join in this experiential learning opportunity.  The Ohio based classes will be hosted at the PAST Innovation Lab on Tuesday between 3:30 and 4:30pm.  The St. John portion of the program is based at the Virgin Islands Environmental Research Station (VIERS).  Program fees include transportation, lodging and food.  College credit is additional.

K–12 Computer Science Framework

K12 Framework2.jpg

The K–12 Computer Science Framework comes at a time when our nation’s education systems are adapting to a 21st Century vision of students who are not just computer users but also computationally literate creators who are proficient in the concepts and practices of computer science. Ketal Patel, PAST’s Director of School Design & Strategy, was part of the Ohio Review Team, offering insight and feedback on the framework.

As K–12 computer science continues to pick up momentum states, districts, and organizations can use the framework to develop standards, implement computer science pathways, and structure professional development. The framework provides a unifying vision to guide computer science from a subject for the fortunate few to an opportunity for all.
